C2 4speed cross shaft parts missing???

    Hello All:

I've got my cross shaft out and have checked it against the '66 AIM, misc. parts drawings, etc. It seems I'm missing something.

When I pulled the cross shaft of the ball stud on the block, I notice on this end was nothing in the end of the cross shaft. The books I'm looking at state there is a nylon bushing, rubber seal, at the block side?? Could someone tell what should be here?

On the frame side, where the shaft mounts I've got what appears to be a nylon type ball seat holding the ball stud in place with a clip and a felt washer. This appears correct, except the felt washer is very hard. I guess the felt washer should be replaced.

Could you guys and gals give me some guidance here please.

    As usual, thank you.

    Kurt,
I would suggest cleaning the original felt washer and regrease it and reuse. The replacement felts are a bit thin and not as good a fit. The nylon and rubber ring fit go on the ball stud engine side as you figured. The intention is to keep the ball face lubricated with out grease spilling out. Ive seen plenty of examples with only the rubber ring on the engine side. Grease slobbering out has not shown to be a problem.

The nylon ball seats only go on the frame end, with the spring retainer and felt washer; the engine end is metal-to-metal, with no nylon ball seats, and the stud on the engine has a square-section rubber ring on the side of the ball closest to the block to contain the grease.
