    C1 Engine comp. blackout

Were the screws that hold the clips that in turn hold the wiring harness in the engine compartment during the blackout procedure at GM? I'm wondering if the screws should be painted in the engine compartment of my '59. Thanks.

Kevin, As Roy notes, the screws were in place. And, that's because they were holding the clips in place. That is why you will typically find bare fiberglass under the clips. They shielded the bare "glass" during blackout. Dennis

Ok... that makes sense, but was the harness in place when the blackout was performed, or was it installed after?

            Kevin -

The clips were installed (riveted or screwed) in off-line subassemblies in the Body Shop (raw fiberglass) and were in place when the blackout operation was done near the end of the Paint Shop; the harness wasn't installed until later, on the Trim Line.

Kevin, If you really want to warm the heart...

... of a judge, do the blackout with a few of the clips slightly rotated from their final position. This should then show a little slice of unpainted 'glass after the wiring loom is installed. Dennis
