    Door Dust Shield Adhesive

Hello, my name is Steve, I have a 72 coupe I am restoring. Does anyone know what to use to hold the plastic dust shield in place to the inside of the doors? The original adhesive was about 1/4 inch in dia with a string inside and remains tacky. I found some windshield adhesive that remains tacky, is about 3/8 inch in dia, but has no string inside. Thank you.

3M strip caulk works very well Part #08578. Down side is that it comes in a package of 60 one ft. strips. You might be able to talk your friendly body shop into selling you a few strips.

Your local ACE hardware store has strip caulk, it is light gray color and it is very inexpensive.

Steve you might as well buy a box of the 3M strip chaulk. There are other uses for it on your 72 coupe. I used it as well for my 70 and found that another application was the seam that goes across the top of the windshield under the t-tops. The 3M product can even be painted. To keep it from attracting dirt I painted the chaulk after application and it has held up very well. It can be used as a filler behind weather-stripping. If you have a wheelwell that has a gap, it will work. If you were to remove the plate to get to the body mount bolt in front of the rear tire, it can be used to reseal the plate.
