    '72 LT-1 Radiator shroud

I need some help. I noticed my '72 LT-1 was missing the fan shroud extension. So, I consulted the '72 parts book. In the LT-1 option section it says that the fan shroud is the same as the LS-5 big block. This means the #'s should be 3956119 for the shroud and 3956089 for the extension. So, I found that extension. But, it doesn't look right. I found the part # on my existing shroud, 3956109, this is the standard 350 shroud, no wonder something looks wrong. What shroud does a LT-1 take? If it is the big block shroud, then I have bigger problems, as the lower mounting studs are 24.5" apart - small block width, not the 26" big block width. That would mean that the core support is not right, and maybe the radiator. Hopefully, the car takes the small block set up, then all I need is a #3956118 extension. Help, thanks -Ross

    Ross-----

ALL 1972 LT-1s, except ZR-1, use the fan shroud you have, GM #3956109. NONE use the big block shroud, GM #3956119. The 3956119 shroud is 2" shorter in front-to-rear dimension. In addition to the mounting stud fitment problem you noted, the 3956119 shroud would not be as efficient in cooling with a small block due to its shorter length.

Joe, thanks. I couldn't believe that the car was that wrong, although I've found stranger things on this car. Ross
