I'm changing the oil seals on the side yokes of the differential on a 69 small block automatic. It says in the manual that they are held in with snap rings, but I can't see the snap rings. There isn't much play in the yokes, and I don't see how to get at them. The manual doesn't have much detail. How do you get at these things? Thanks.

Re: 69 differential oil seals
with the differential out of the car, and the back cover off, push the axle all the way in and you will see the snap ring and the groove it retains in wher the axle protrudes thru the side gear inside the ring gear carrier housing. Once you see it, it will be self explanitory. I believe you may have to remove the crosspin for access, but I don't remember for sure.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: 69 differential oil seals
Thanks. I found the snap rings. It looks like the center pin does need to come out. Do you just drive this through with a punch? I can't find anything in the manual. Being inside the differential makes me feel like a family doctor doing open heart surgery, so I don't want to do anything until I'm sure it's right. Thanks again.- Top

Re: 69 differential oil seals
usually there is a bolt holding it in position, once that is removed, they generally push out pretty easily.Bill Clupper #618- Top
