I have been thinking about buying a C5 for pleasure driving and weekend touring. My target would be a 2002, under 15K miles, as I see that as sort of the optimum value combination (like to be at or near $35K). Prefer a Z06- I would love to experience that power and handling capability. My questions: Is the Z06 livable on long trips? For what I gain in performance, how much will I suffer in comfort? Any other advice on Z06 versus coupe is appreciated. THANKS MUCH.

Re: C5 Z06 Advice Solicited
I had a loaded '99 C-5 with everything, very nice for a long trip. Now I have an '03 Z06, the only option being Millenium Yellow. I really miss those creature comforts of the '99. The Bose stereo system in the C-5 coupe is outstanding and not so hot in the Z06. I would get the standard C-5 coupe. PT- Top

I bought a 2003 ZO6 in September of this year. I love it. I have a 66 and a 68 and all I can say is the technology has come a LONG way. I got this one in upstate NY, so my first drive was 250 miles to bring it home. It got over 26 MPG on that trip. I installed the barrier between the trunk and interior and that cuts down on the tire noise quite a bit. It is comfortable. My wife thinks so too, which is always a good thing. My previous "driver" was a 1998 Volvo C70 coupe with 17" wheels and low profile tires, and honestly, the Zo6 ride is not any harsher that that was. It is a little noisier, but it's GOOD noise.
It is scary fast and corners like it is on rails. My 68 is a 427/435 with 4:11 rear and it feels tame compared with the ZO6.
The ZO6 seats are not the sport seats you could get in other c5's, but they are fine for me. I am no youngster at 59. I do need the "auto seat mover" to help me get in, though
Mine had just under 4000 miles. If you find one in the 15K mile range, it will probably need tires, depending on how hard it was driven. I would think you could get a nice 2002 for way under $35K and a low miles 2003 for around 35. I paid a little more than that, but I wanted it....you know how that goes!
I think the only reason to get a coupe over a ZO6 is if you wanted the auto trans. I thought about that for a few seconds, but decided if I was going to have a C5, I wanted the most performance.
Good Luck ...ZO6 is THE best bang for the buck in a performance car.

Re: C5 Z06 Advice Solicited
I really like the performance of the Z06 I bought last May, but the 01 convertible I had was much more comfortable. Both are 6-speeds. I drove the 01 to Monterey, a 6600 mile round trip. I really miss the sport seats in the Z06. The gearing of the 01 suited my driving style better too. Mostly I miss not being able to drop the top. If I had it to do over again, I would keep the 01 convertible. Try to find a Z06 to drive before you buy it. My mistake was I didn't!- Top

Re: C5 Z06 Advice Solicited
Get a convertible -- it's the only way to go. Plenty enough power AND the joy of an open car. Here we are, leading the homecoming parade at our fiftieth class reunion a couple of years ago.

Re: C5 Z06 Advice Solicited
I bought a 2002 coupe, new. Really like the fact that you can remove the top if you want, have over twice the cargo room for bringing back swap meet items.
I ordered the Real time damping suspension and love it, added the ZO6 sway bars and now have the best of both worlds for ride and cornering abilities.- Top

Re: C5 Z06 Advice Solicited
Thanks for all your input. Need a 6 speed, don't want a convertible, and don't really need every creature comfort, so I think I gotta have a Z06.- Top
