58 motor mount location on frame

My 58 project came with home-made angle iron motor mounts. Now that I have these removed, I'm ready to install the correct brackets and motor mount towers. The underside frame brackets are there but I need to know the correct location for the brackets that get welded on the top side of the frame. Can anyone give me a measurement from the front edge of the frame to the closest side of the top bracket? Your response is appreciated.

Randy, my 58 frame is ready to go to sandblaster so getting to things on it are pretty easy right now. I measured to top front inside frame rail to the front lower edge of top mount bracket and got the following:

    driver side--11 1/2 in

    passenger side--10 13/16 in

I will watch this post to see if others help you too. I am going to go back and look to see if there is another more accurate way to set the mount but suspect these will work just fine? Just want to make sure you get the right info. Bill

Thanks, Bill. I knew they were different measurements from side to side. That's what threw me off. Good luck with your frame-off resto.

Randy, I am just checking back to make sure you feel oriented. Wanted to add that the upper mounts are elongated vertical holes too. Sure you were already aware of this. Bill

Bill, thanks for your interest. Your response is clear. Any Idea why right and left side mounts are offset 11/16ths? This is what I came up with also and at first it didn't seem right, but I knew it had to be since the mounts on the bottom of the frame were original to my car. THanks again.

Re: 58 motor mount location on frame

Sorry about getting back to you on your question but been cleaning my garage for a week! A 58 and 72 convert in-progress bodyoffs and putting my wifes 84 back together--and she wants me to do some house remodelling too. I just don't have time for domestic issues when corvette are at stake!

Since the bolt on brackets have a "correcting" offset, final assembly puts both sides at same relative position on the frame. I know this isn't an answer to your question but I simply don't have any idea on why they did it. Reminds me of the left and right hand placement of the hood support. Wouldn't it of made more sense to pop the hood, step out and raise it on the lefthand side, check your oil, and then relesae the hood support without walking around the front end? Maybe in the case of the bracket mount locations, the frame assembly welding guy welded the left side on first and then when he got to the other side--whoops, the frame has an indentation--I'll just weld it forward and have them design a bracket with a correcting offset? I'm sure I am probably wrong as usual. Bill
