I thought it would be a good idea to detail the engine compartment side of the firewall prior to installing the new front end. Replace all the rusted clips etc. Since the previous owner had sandblasted it, I thought the best approach would be hit it with a DA and 80 grit, seal it with several coats of Evercoat Slicksand (a heavy polyester primer sealer for fiberglass) and then shoot it with GM engine compartment black. Does this approach make sense? Thanks.

Re: C2 finishing of the firewall
Scott,
Since the cowl has been sandblasted, now is the time to work it. Your approach sounds good, but I wouldn't get carried away with the DA. If you have a lot of sand blast pitting in the glass, you may want to resurface the panels with some skim coats of bondo first.
good luck,

Doubt I'll make it to the "hangy down" state. Would love to if for no other reason than to hang a little trash on you in person...
Remember not to parade around in your "split rear window" pants in public. Reserve for private gatherings of close friends. I'd hate to see the NCRS get a black eye by having #14 put in the slammer.
