Earlier C3's had an alpha and a number for the jack date code. Later ones had three numbers. Does anyone know with certainty what the three numbers represent? Thanks for your help.

Re: Late C-3 Jack date code help
Mike
The three numbers should represent the year and week production. Thus the number 642 would represent the 42nd week of 1976 or October 76. Tom Russo wrote a article in the Fall of 1997 restorer about jack codes.

Re: Late C-3 Jack date code help
From 68-75, the date codes were in the "9M" format where the first digit is the year followed by the production month...so "9M" is December 1969...of course that could have been a 70 by then as well but you get the idea.Tom Russo

Re: Late C-3 Jack date code help
Look toward the outer arm near the cranking end...the 68-69 tech manual has a photo of it. The "A" is stamped on the raised portion of the pad that contacts the chassis. Jacks have been seen without date codes.Tom Russo

Re: Late C-3 Jack date code help
Marc,
The alpha-numeric code for the earlier C3s is a smaller font than that used for the later C3s. Even some part of, or maybe all of, 1973 which is still alpha-numeric. A friend with a 1973 had a jack with alpha-numeric characters which were larger than the infamous 9M code on mine. We came to the conclusion it was original to the car in spite of the different size font.
I don't know for sure, but would expect there to be some mention of this in the 1973 and later TIM&JG.Terry- Top

Re: Late C-3 Jack date code help
Terry & Tom,
This is interesting. Perhaps a judging manual would answer, but I still can't determine where the two digit (alpha/numerical) code was stamped. I know on later C3s it's on the "pivot pin." I understand on the earlier C3s it's on the "side of the jack." I just can't determine where "on the side of the jack."
Terry, exactly where is the stamp on yours? What would you estimate the height of the stamp to be?- Top

Re: Late C-3 Jack date code help
Marc,
My '69 is about 500 cars "newer" than yours and it is stamped "9K" (October 69). There is a very detailed explanation in the TIM&JG along with a picture of the date code. It also mentions that there is the letter "A" stamped on the raised portion of the pad that contacts the chassis. (Stands for AUSCO Auto Specialties Mfg. Co.)
It does not mention the font height, just the differences between 68 - early 69 that had a smaller base.
Hope that helps

Re: Late C-3 Jack date code help
Mine is stamped on the link nearest the hex head -- I think. I'm working from memory, and those who know me will know how bad that is.
I wouldn't begin to guess at the font height without going out to measure it. The car is all put away for the winter, so measuring it is out of the question for several months or more. Maybe someone has an early C3 jack closer at hand, or perhaps one will appear at the swap meet in Florida in a couple of weeks.Terry- Top

Re: Late C-3 Jack date code help
Just checked my early 69 car and the jack is date stamped on the upper half of the lower right scissor arm if you have the cranking nut oriented to the right.
The letters are 5/16" high BUT mine read K 4 . How does one interpret these? There is no "A" stamped on the pad that contacts the frame. I am second owner of the car, having bought it in 1970.- Top
