Is there any insulation there????

In the Corvette Central catalog, they have an item number 132007 called "Console Insulation Underlayment" described as "Under Dash/Center Console". Cost is about $17. It appears the item is NOT the upper dash insulation or the formed pieces with cardboard backing, but something for the CENTER console area. My 67 conv has no insulation in the center console area, under the radio area, or under the the large metal piece surrounding the shifter. Is there supposed to be insulation there? Does your C2 have insulation there?

That piece of insulation (P/N 3850699) is shown in the A.I.M. in UPC 1-Asm, Sheet F-11, item 9.

Tim,
I just took apart the dash completely per help the good Doc Rebuild, I had a small piece behind/under the radio. There was no piece under the center console, just the trim plate, rubber shift boot, and shifter itself with a hole looking down to the tranny. My center console had never been removed previously including original carpeting with #'s still stuck on the underside.
