Re: Non Factory Side Exhaust - Pro or Con?
Difficult to reverse, easy to detect, major deduct on the value of the car, to say nothing about the noise level if you plan on driving it.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: Non Factory Side Exhaust - Pro or Con?
I won't have another side exhaust car, after driving it for about 20 minutes, windows up or down, I'm tired of the noise. I think the noise from the standard, underneath exhaust system sounds just right..even after 20 minutes at highway speed. I've seen side exhaust added without t******* the fiberglass as the factory did. If you do it that way it can be converted back with much less trouble.- Top

Re: Non Factory Side Exhaust - Pro or Con?
Rob, was your side exhaust car a small block or big block? My vette has the std 300HP engine with that I heard it wouldn't be extermely loud but I have yet to hear it myself. Even if the side fiberglass can be spared can the valance in the back be added (to fill the holes) and removed easily?- Top

Re: Non Factory Side Exhaust - Pro or Con?
rear valence panel not a problem. remove the original with holes for exhaust extensions and replace it with a NO3 rear valence. save the original as you'll get tired of having a radio you can't hear. regards, mike- Top

Re: Non Factory Side Exhaust - Pro or Con?
Sidepipes are a funny thing. You'll find many who oppose them and many who think they are what sets a Corvette apart from other cars.
I once drove from St. Louis to the other side of Dayton in a '67 coupe with a 427. Those pipes droned to the point that even with the speakers in the sides right next to our ears, we couldn't hear the 8 track playing.
Still, I went to Nashville in '03 in a '72 convertible with sidepipes and had not one complaint about noise.
Originality value will be hurt, and odds are replacing them back stock after you are done will be detectable, but you may find more who want them if you are in the selling mode. If you are not selling, you only have you to satis
Recommendation: Find one with sidepipes and go for a ride. Either you will have a grin across your face that makes that $2000 option worth every penny or you will wake up in 4 days when you can hear again and say "never!"- Top

Re: Non Factory Side Exhaust - Pro or Con?
It's a big block, with original G.M. pipes, but I've driven a 300HP with side exhaust and thought it was too loud also. Like I said, In my opinion, the normal sound from underneath car exhaust resonnating through the fiberglass body sounds just right. Before you add side exhaust, drive one for awhile, say a good 20 minutes or so and you'll know for sure if it's for you.- Top

Re: Hooker side mounts are always an option
Hookers on a midyear work better than on a C3. They seem to tuck under just a bit more, but either way, they are lady killers for sure.
You also get very wary wearing shorts.
A million years ago, Ecklers made some fiberglass covers for the header tube sidepipes that made a lot os sense for street use, but I've only seen them on the Ecklers cars in catalogs.- Top

Re: I think they look hot on a C2 and
The one thing you have not mentioned in a potential reversal is the issue of the supports for the rocker panel that have to be removed/bent out of the way, or otherwisw dealt with to get the sidepipes installed. These can be a mojor PITA to replace/readjust or otherwise deal with if you find out later you want to change back. BTW, the loudest sidepipe car I ever owned was a '67 300hp version.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: Non Factory Side Exhaust - Pro or Con?
Kewie, I'm in Indy, if you want to hear the sound from side exhaust let me know and we'll go for a ride.( stop by before spring though- I'm trying to find custom mufflers that would take the place of the chambers--my hearing is going bad)Steve- Top
