    C2 Window Sealant Used??

    Hi all -

My winter project is doors, windows, seals, etc. on my '63 coupe. My passenger door is completely disasembled.

After fighting for a couple of hours to get the passenger side window glass and vent glass out of their respective stainless frames, I'm wondering if any adhesive or sealant was originally used where glass meets frame. The previous owner of mine sure did! And what a fight it was!

The AIM shows the glass, frame, and rubber filler in Section 1 Sheet E 5.00. But there is no notation re. any sealant being used. And I scanned thru Section 14 seeing if I could find anything listed there. Nope.

I sure don't want to pass this PITA process along if the glass wasn't sealed to the frame to begin with. Any definitive answer??

I understand. My question is, is any sealant used along with the bedding strip? Like silastic or weatherstrip adhesive.

          Gordon,

Mid years used a non hardening compound from 3M. It's still available under the name Automotive Bedding and Glazing Compound. It's black non hardening and sold under the 3M number of 08509. I use it all the time and have for the last 30 years.

          Regards,

          JR
