1976 Aluminum Rims

I have noticed that some 1976 L-82s rim centers are black. The brochure shows that as well....were those painted or an insert? If they were painted can some one suggest a paint and technique that is NCRS approved?

They were painted, I had a 77 once with the factory aluminum wheels. Not sure about the paint technique....Craig

There was a plastic cap with a black plastic insert center also. What I was refering to was there was a painted area outboard of that cap, in the area where the lug nuts reside...Craig

The rectangular slots are natural with the center section of the rim painted a semi-gloss black along with the center cap, painted semi-gloss black to its upper ridge where the chrome rim protrudes from the cap. Sometimes when I look at mine (78) they look flat black. I picked up a replacement set of caps but the black matched up nicely with the rim center section painted black. 76-78 (non Pace Car) were all alike.

In the cap center section recess is the Corvette crossed flags logo. Wheel weights attach to the inside of the rim and lug nuts are chrome.
