    Engine change out

Ok, the time has come for a new engine. If anyone has info for companies to deal with, or just good plan old advise let me know. Subject vehicle is a 1979 Corvette, small block 350, thm 350 trans. I'm not sure of rear end gear ratio.

Anyway, I would be very pleased to hear from any and all. If you respond here make subject: c-3 motor replacement, or you may e-mail: cestmoi52@adelphia.net.

Thanks a bunch to one and all.....

    Re: C-3 Motor Replacement

Why the engine swap? did the original power plant genade?

If it didn't, why not re-build? Re-built too many times already?

Are you running the original smog/exhaust setup?

      Re: C-3 Motor Replacement

Just put that '73-'85 GM Chevy 350ci 4 bolt main 260hp replacement engine in my 1975 Corvette. Everything was an easy direct bolt fit. Got the engine off of the Internet from Pace Pontiac in Niles, Ohio for $1287!!! This is for a BRAND NEW 350ci engine!!! Hard to beat deal!!!!! Engine comes with oil pan, oil pump, timing chain cover, heads & steel L-48 style valve covers. You use your carb, alt., starter, distributor, water pump, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, fuel pump.

        Re: Engine change out

Another engine that is brand new and comes with a good warranty from GM is the 350 HO eng #12486041. Horsepower is 330 and has about 380 ft lbs of torque. The only problem is that this engine has real good high horsepower heads that are real popular and the bolt pattern, using less intake bolts than your current engine will require an intake to match the bolt pattern, so a few more dollars will have to be spent to use this engine in your Corvette. I think you will get a lot of enjoyment out of this engine in your 79. I put a ZZ crate engine in my 70 and really enjoy the extra horsepower. I kept the removed engine.

          Just depends on your budget.

I built a 383 for my previous 1978, really enjoyed that extra torque and horsepower in that heavy car. GM offers a 383 crate engine now too.

WOW!!! Thanks for the info and advise. Some of the answers you already guest. The engine is original, but hard mileage makes rebuild not as attractive as new replacement. At this time I am torn between Summit Racings HO 383, and Jaspers 383/330 stroker.

            Again thanks for the inputs..........Thomas

              You'll love the 383

To get the most out of it, just make sure it has some decent heads on it, something like AFRs would be ideal.
