New trim rings for 67 Rally wheels

Just wondering if any of you have used the "replacement" type trim rings that have the more like the original four clip design attachments? Zip products shows them on their website, and I emailed them asking questions and the sent a very fuzzy photo showing what to me looks like a clip very similar to the originals.

I just had all four wheels blasted and painted, and I don't want to put back on the rings I have that use the replacement later style clips that scrape off paint as they are installed. The four clip design didn't damage the paint much, but originals are way to hard to come by and expensive if you find them.

Here is a link to the zip web site:

The clip style shown in the photo looks closer to the original design than the "360 degree paint-scraper" clips, but from the photo the clips do not appear identical to the original design. The original clips were attached to a non-stainless steel ring that was retained by the lip of the stainless trim ring being crimped around it for the entire 360 degree perimeter. These clips appear to be attached directly to the stainless material, but maybe I am misreading the photo.

Also, on original trim rings, one clip was always located at the opening for the valve. The ring in the photo does not appear to be made this way.

FYI, I was recently quoted $240 to have a set of four original trim rings restored. I sent the guy a bunch of dented and scratched originals that I had picked up for an average cost of about $15 each, and asked him to pick four to try and restore. I will be interested to see what he can do.

A restored original set recently sold on ebay for about $450, so either way the option of using original trim rings is more expensive than using the ZIP part. If your only concern is your paint (as opposed to NCRS judging), it's probably worth further study of the clips on the ZIP trim rings to see how they actually attach to the wheel. It's hard to make out from the photo.
