C2-C3 frames

It is my understanding that 63-64 frames are different from 65-67 frames, and that 67-82 frames are the same. Will a big block fit, unaltered frame, up to 1982 ? Why won't a big block fit the 63-64 frames ?

I think that maybe what you are saying is an oversimplification. 1963 and 1964 frames each had unique items. 1965-1967 basically were the same with very minor variations. 1968 was unique and the 1969-1974 frames were the same. But you still had different frames for 4 speed and automatic trans cars.

The front crossmember on 63-64 does not have the indentation for the harmonic ballancer that later frames have. Although it is possible to modify the crossmember for clearance.

I would be leary of a 40 year old frame and a high torque big block. I have seen way too many frames that were very marginal at best. The "tin termites" can do a lot of damage in that time.

--------All Dicks info is good. The only thing I would say differently is that You can put a big-block in 63/64 frame, but the crank pulley is so close to the frame that you cant put a fan belt on without taking the pulley off or raising the motor up! You can also use a couple of AC spacers with the motor mounts but the clearance is still marginal. By the time you had enough spacers in there to get proper clearance you would have a heck of a time getting the motor-mount bolts in. Dont ask me how I know this. Its too painful!........Bill S
