    1108400 starter for my 69 427/390hp 4-speed car

I am looking for an original 1108400 starter for my 69 427/390 4-speed car. My car was built on 11/19/69 and the date code needs to be no more than 6-months prior. I have been trying E-bay and Hemmings so far with no luck. Anybody know where I can find one? Thanks

One of the best sources for starters would be John Pirkle. He can be reached at (706) 760-9047

I just tried John(nice guy) but he did not have one for my 69 with a date code that worked for me. I previously bought an Alternator from him. He does great work. Thanks for the reply but my quest continues. Can anyone else help?

        Michael----

Chicago Corvette has (or, at least, used to have) a large stock of alternators and starters. They might be a source to try.

It's hard to believe that the 1108400 starter with a date within 6 months prior to your car's build would be all that hard to find. The 1108400 starter was used on many vehicles and finding a unit within 6 months of production means that there had to have been 10s of thousands of these things made.

Beware of restamped starters. One way to tell is that the pole attaching screws are not countersunk in the housing. Stampers are turning the housings down to remove the old numbers so that they can restamp them. Study the characters on original starters. The restamped starters that I have seen have variations in the numerals and letters

goat hills classics sells the restamped starters. I bought an original 8400 starter with a 1971 or 1972 date code as they are still relatively available at a fair price ( $400!
            Good luck,

Joe, for some reason these 400 starter cores are fairly rare. John tells me he has a large backlog of requests
