That one great engine, one great chassis and one ugly styling effort by our friends at GM. YUK!

Just one man's opinion so jump in if you think the styling department at GM has not made Harley Earl turn face down in the grave.

      JR

I don't know what Harley Earl would think, but I think Bill Mitchell would be okay with the design since the C6 incorporates some definite styling cues from his Corvette designs.

At least all the air inlets and extractors are real, not simulated!

          interest fact

the sheet GM handed out states that the ZO-6 engine has "titanium valve springs" and i have not check lately but several years ago a set for SBC cost $1800. i do not think it cost that much to build a complete LS-2 engine in the C-6. i wonder if the racing rules had not changed to where the C-6R had to be close to the production C-6(ZO-6) to be legal would this car had made it to production.

I happen to like the styling very much. *NM*

At First, I Hated Its Catfish Eyes and Lips...

And, I said bad things about the guys that designed it.

But now I'm remorseful about what I said: When I look at the C6 side-view, I can see the C2/C3 heritage with the sharp creases of the front and rear fender rises terminating on the door. That C1-ish/73-esque/C5-ish side cove could stand some refining, but the rising rear quarter (but not the big butt) looks good and it (and the big butt) is going to be with us as long as form follows function. The rear end looks like a billboard with tail lights (not much you can do to pretty up a billboard). Perhaps it's an improvement over the C5, and they could do something with that euro-wide license plate cove.

As the months have passed, I have seen better photographs, and I have gone over the car in the person...I have even grown to love it's Mud Catfish face. A multitude of ugliness is covered up by high-dollar euro handling, 400HP/400FTLB, 0-60 in 4.?, and 186MPH (bragging rights, who's going to use it) with modern limo comforts. Not only did they NOT stop making Vettes in 67, the C6 is the best Vette yet. Open eyes, open mind...it'll grow on you. Just listen to Dr. Mick: "...You can't always get...what you want...But, sometimes...You get what you need."

I smiled when I read JR's comment about Harley Earl.

Harley Earl definitely came from the old school, and he did move the art past the vertical exposed radiators and running boards. (Didn't he come to GM from Stutz Motors? ) I think Harley Earl invented tail fins and fake exhaust outlets (Didn't Buick finally lose them?)

I remember seeing a photograph of him standing beside (I believe it was a Buick) concept car...this thing had a high circular grille (about 12-15" diameter) with close, thin concave vertical bars on a slightly protruding snout in the exact center of the front end. It seems it also had two huge chrome face bars in the usual bumper positions that ran horizontal for a bit then angled up toward this circular grille. Whoa, Momma, tawk about butt ugly!

Nice try, JR! Actually, Harley must be PO'ed the new cars are so subdued.

i liked my other corvettes but i love my C-6

and remember i had 3 new C-5s,97,99,02 and new 59,62 340 hp,63 340 hp SWC,64 365 hp coupe,65 conv 396,66 conv 427 and i would never go back if i had to drive them any distance. you have to love the new tech,400 hp,caddy comfort,185+ top speed and 30MPG. may get a new ZO-6 in a couple of years if they come with a auto trans as i am too lazy to shift gears and the power will mean you need both hands on the wheel as my reaction time is not what it used to be. my C-6 took me by suprise when i kicked it down the first time as the have changed the traction control and active handling to where it will let the car get free more than the one on the C-5 before the systems take over

Either you like the Euro-trash look...

...with a big butt, or you don't.

I don't. As Stroker McGurk said in the sixties: "You can shove a jet engine up a mosquito and it would be fast, but it wouldn't look cool."

Overall I do like the way the new C6 looks but it just does not push my buttons like a 67BB or a 69BB. To me the doors look a little too long and the hood a little too short. Again I am no expert just my 2 cents.

                        Here's The Aforementioned...

Harley Earl automotive styling disaster...the Syrup of Ipecac of open cars. It was the Buick LeSabre concept car. And it was out there...note Dwight Eisenhower admiring it IN UNIFORM! (Edit: Oops, that was at another site.)

                        Oh well, tastes change.

you can't haul luggage or cover the wide rear tires without a "big" back end unless you want to add fender extension like a 4 wheel truck to cover the tires. those road racing BMWs look weird with those 4 wheel drive type fender extension. remember those "greewood" corvetes and their fender extensions, they looked ****ty.
