    C2 Plastic Rivet Installation

Hi everyone! I'm attempting to install the plastic rivets on the ignition top shield on my 65, and not having much luck. I purchased the tubular rivet tool from Long Island and was able to rivet the front clip (after a major struggle!), but the tool does not seem to work on the plastic rivets. Everything I try just seems to tear them up. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

I believe the plastic rivets you are talking about were melted flat with heat...not smashed like a steel rivet. You might try a hot kitchen knife. Good luck, Terry

Also, the plastic rivets had a small steel washer that went on them before they were smashed flat. I assume we are talking about the one's that hold the thin shielding to the underside of the ignition shield. Terry

You are welcome. I hope we are talking about the same thing. Don't use too much heat. Terry

Thanks Terry. Yes, those were the plastic rivets I was referring to. I heated the setting tool with just enough heat to get the plastic to flatten out over the washers. Worked just great!

Excellent, glad to hear that. I never thought of using the setting tool. I have never had to do the repair but I thought if I had I would just use a hot spatuala or something similar. Sounds great. Take care, Terry
