I would like to change my stock air filter to an open system. The chrome housing I bought from advance auto store fit the carb but did not work with the hood clearance. Could anyone give me a name of a manufacturer that would have a chrome housing (and size) that would fit under the 76 hood? Thanks in advance!

Re: 76 air filter housing swap?
Jeff----
I don't know if you live in an area that requires emission inspections, but, if you do, you might want to consider the effect of such an air cleaner swap. 1976 Corvettes use a thermostatic air cleaner. This air cleaner is part of the emission control systems. In California, and probably many other states, vehicles subject to biannual emissions inspections WILL FAIL the "visual" portion of the test if the air cleaner has been modified or changed. Of course, the air cleaner swap is easily "reversed" at inspection time. But, if one also "cleans up" the engine compartment by removal of all of the related thermostatic air cleaner emission components, reversal can be much more of a chore. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
