A6 compressor date code

The date code that is cast into my compressor looks like "0786" or it could be "D786" or even "D7B6". Does anyone know how to interpret these codes?

On my 1967, with car assembly date of Dec. 7, 1966, my original AC compressor has a cast date of G146 (July 14, 1966) on the compressor head with a cast number of 65555302. The original foil lable on the compressor has model number 5910645 printed on it and a code number with 090862 stamped into it. The 090862 code number is the date of (09)Sept. (08)8, (6)1966 (2)2nd shift.

Brandon - I trust you are looking at the manufacturing date code on the back (rear) compressor plate. That being the case as Warren pointed out the date sequence is MDY or MDDY (M is the month designation as an alpha character, A-M; D or DD is the calendar day designation as one or two digits, 1-9 or 10-31 depending on the EOM; Y is the year designation as the last digit of the year, for 1967 production either 6 or 7.

The manufacturing date code on the back plate of my compressor reads G226. The compressor label has a CODE NO 072762

Your interpretation of the first character being a D is consistent with the format as is the last character being a 6; but please take another look at the middle two characters of the segment that should be the day of the month. They are not what would be expected in the normal pattern; but not impossible because errors have been know to happen in production.
