the frame sides have 2 tension cables i believe, the top i removed had none but i do have a salvage frame with 2, one on each side of the 3rd member to the first , and believe the spring portion goes forward. The question is - do they just lay in along the ridge above the weatherstrip / or do they go in this trough and go through the pad on either side as well. this salvage top also had a cable on the driver side lower of the frame by the 'b' post! is this a theft device or is this stock also and missing from the original?

Re: 69 convertible frame tension /spring cables
Kelly,
The side cables go into "pockets" that are sewn to the conv. top material, these cables keep the top tighter to the frame above the dr/pass windows. The spring does get riveted to the front header. If your top material has string, which some do, coming out of the pockets you will see where the cable will go thru. The pocket is just above the dr/pass window "binding" on the inside of the material. You can use a coat hanger to pull the spring side of the cable thru the pocket. Be careful of sharp edges on the hanger. The top frame has to be half way up or down to get the cables to the header then rivet them on.The other cable is used as a stop and should be fastened to the B-post and to the rear deck bow if I am not mistaken. Iam not sure if I am thinking of the same cable you are. Mike D- Top
