I am new to the corvettes. I am currently a driver of small engine german cars. My search for the ultimate 25th birthday car has led me to the 68/69 vette. I would like to know about common problems and other things to look for in the potential purchase process. Thanks.

Re: what to look for in 69
Oh, at last, a question for which I might provide some insight. I would avoid a 68 for only one reason, mid production, (running changes) through out the model year.making some parts difficuult to ffind and costly when found. Weather you are looking for a 8 or 9 the things you look at are the same. RUST, primarily in the windsheild posts, door jambs, i.e. the entire "birdcage" and frame , especially the rear wheel "kick ups", (in front of the rear wheels). Check engine numbers, there are many sources for this information. Many will say it depends on your intent, driver, show or Top Flight, but keep in mind if the numbers match all avenues are open to you should your priorities change later. Options play an important part in the purchase price as well as the resale, Big blocks always will be worth more in a numbers matching car. Also be aware that there are MANY mumbers that make up a "numbers Matching " car, not just the engine, virtually all mechanical components have dates and they should corespond to the production date. Lastly, for my contribution anyway, A smart rule of thumb is to buy cosmetics first, if the paint is great you are ahead or the game, same for interior, these components are expensive to make right, an engine rebuild is a bargin in comparison.
Best wishes and happy hunting
