    c1 tach question

Hi - recently the tach in my '61 stopped working. Removed and replaced cable. Now the tach works but there is a ticking sound in the tach that varies with RPM (drives me nuts). If I back the cable out of the tach slowly the ticking subsides but the tach does not work consistently. Any thoughts on weather it could be the tach itself or perhaps an incorrect cable? The cable I installed was identical to the old one. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Did you put a lubricant in the new cable after you replaced it?

Hi Tony - yes I can see the generator is spinning the cable freely inside it's jacket - the problem seems to be at the tach.

I had the same problem with my tach cable in my '61. When I replaced it and put some lube in the new cable, it seemed to solve my noise problem. I'd ask Jack Humphrey for his opinion on your issue. Good luck.
