Have a 67 car with a build date of 01/17/67 - the alternator has a date of 6E15 which equates to May 15, 1966. With the strike in 67 does the alternator date make sense. It obviously does not make the typical 6 month rule. Are there any allowances made for 67 cars due to the strike. I thought the strike was in dec 66. Did GM stockpile parts knowing the strike was coming.

Re: 1967 alternator date vs build date
John - While in general as Mike inferred, it does seem early for the car. A couple of things to consider. (1) Is it the "correct" alternator for the engine/accessory combination? (2) If it's a unique alternator because of the engine/accessory combination, you could make a case for it because the turn over in production from the alternator build date could be slower that for the basic alternators. (3) Are there indications that the alternator might have been replaced; like rebuilding stamps, different fittings, or case rotation. (4) Back then inventory control although somewhat important wasn't one of their strong suits. Good luck. Pete- Top

Re: 1967 alternator date vs build date
Peter -- It is a standard issue 693 alternator 37 amp correct for the engine accy -- 350 hp no TI air etc. Who knows if it is a replacement. The dates are close. I am going to call John Pirkle and see if we can make a trade. Also I got a 696 from someone in NY who does a great job on alternators almost as good as John - the diode dates are not as nice. I may call him as well.- Top
