    Wayne Wobble air car-itis

    Wayne,
I have a 66 roadster with C60 AC. I was researching the archives for hints on repairs to the fuse block and came across your interesting post of 5/20/2000. I have had an intermittent problem at the fuse block affecting the high speed blower and more recently a loose fuse clip connection at the courtesy lamp/clock circuit.

Could you be a little more specific which circuit is particularly troublesome on air cars. I have an AIM manual if you need to reference a specific circuit. Which circuit is the 5 amp conn,40 load you are splicng the 12" of wire in?

I'll be in Orlando looking at fuse blocks!!

What I always called Air Car-Itis is a failure in the connection at the bulkhead connector. It is the large red power wire in the corner of the connector. That wire carries all of the power into the car. It usually failed on AC cars first because of the higher power demand, thus the name. This failure results in sudden and total loss of power in the car. Sounds like you have other problems. I have seen the fuse connections go bad also. It sounds like the problem you are experiencing.

Randy - Interesting situation; but I had a similar experience with my '66 Chevelle and although it's an air car, in the case of Chevelles I'm not sure it's just air cars. I guess I'd better check my C60 '67. Basically what I found on the Chevelle was that the fuse block plastic in the area where BIG RED (the wire) and associated clips are attached had over the years melted probably from heat build up from resistance and connections were not rigit so the items moved a bit. Another problem with the Chevelles was the windshield gasket seal degrades over time and water runs down on the fuse block area; just to complicate the situation. Anyway, in the case of my Chevelle the fix was to replace both halves of the fuse/junction block and to fix the windshield seal. It took a bit to find some good fuse/junction blocks for the Chevelle; but Long Island has them (Section 39, Item 28) ($s ouch!). Maybe now I know why!!!!!!!!!!! A bit of work but it fixed the problem. Pete
