    Mid Year Washers

Getting ready for an operations check and the washers on my '66 are DOA. Wipers work fine, plenty of water in the contanier, no wax on the nozzles, hoses connected and not cracked etc. Is there some type of priming process?

Priming the system can work, I generally use a turkey baster to force water (or washer fluid) thru the system from the botttom of the reservoir hose. Yo will know when done becaust the fluid will come out of the washers. Then reassemble the hose into the reservoir and see if the system works.

Tom O' (I assume)... Just to ease your nerves,

nobody to date (that I am aware of) has failed the Founder's op check. You certainly don't want to be the first. Get busy - and best of luck, Dennis

            T.,

My '64 had the same problem. It turned out to be the washer pump was bad. The pump diaphragm usually is the problem. I had an NOS washer pump assembly lying around and installed it. I had to prime the new pump just as Bill described. It took a few seconds but it took off and proceeded to shot water over the top of the car until I adjusted the nozzles. If you pump is bad, you can remove it with out removing the entire windshield wiper motor assembly. It's a little tricky get everything aligned correctly when reinstalling the pump to the motor. It may take a few tries, ask me how I know.

            Best Regards,
