    C2 Wiring Harness Fender Straps

An earlier post reminded me of a question that I have been meaning to ask. I replaced the "bubba"ized wiring harness in my 66 and had to cut the original black plastic hold down straps. I bought repos from LIC to use. I find that the repos look like the originals, but when I went to attach it to the original hole in the fender well, it will come out with ease. The hole is just a little too big for the repo strap plug that goes into it. Does any one know of a trick to create a good fit?

    Thanks for the help
    Rob

If you find any made from a plastic material that doesn't break in half in a week after you install them, let me know

The ones on my 71 that I purchased from Dr. Rebuild did not break, and have not 9 years later.

The repros from another source were stiff and work as the two of you describe.

I don't (yet) have experience with his straps for our 66, but I will, and I suspect they will be as good as the ones I used on my 71.

        Rob,
I wrapped a small strip of black electrical tape around the plug and it has worked so far without coming out.

Try pushing them in, and then with an assistant holding them, put the tip of a soldering iron on the piece poking through the fender. That'll flatten them out and make them hold better.

            Thanks

Thanks for the tips. I've thought to heat them up some how (boiling water, wife's oven, etc.) to make them more pliable and then give them a good pinch in the vice or with pliars to flatten it out/increase the circumference. The tape sounds like an easy no brainer. We'll see what works. If either of these tricks don't work, I will buy a new set from Doc Rebuild and try my luck there.

Re: C2 Wiring Harness Fender Straps

I found the same problem with my wiring harness straps. I reused some off an old, original harness I found in a mid-year parts yard. You're right, it's the reproduction straps that are the problem. Try using some "friction" type electrical type, it will conform more to the part of the strap that goes into the hole.
