    Accessory OR option

I know we argue over accessories and factory options, but if your Corvette came only from the "factory" with a soft or hard top , then you bought-added one or the other later , is it then a dealer accessory or factory option ????
Remember NCRS only sees it as it was delivered from the factory

    Re: Accessory OR option

    Roy,

I think they see it as "the way it was, or COULD have been" delivered from the factory. It could have had both tops. I could have had KO wheels. I could have been delivered with red stripe tires but it could NOT have been delivered with a right hand mirror.

Tough call but I think an accurate call. Many dealers sold cheap mud guards that screwed to the fenders but I'd sure hate to see a Corvette judged with these items and pass with flying colors. There has to be a line somewhere and I think the NCRS stance on this is correct.

      Roy-----

For an item that was available in PRODUCTION, the only way to tell if it was originally installed on the car is via the build sheet or window sticker. Neither are required items for judging purposes. So, if one does a factory correct installation of an item that was available in PRODUCTION there's no way to tell if it was factory-installed, or not. Examples would include, but not be limited to, power steering, power brakes, factory hard top, or soft top.

For an accessory item (like a luggage rack on C2/C3 Corvettes or a locking gas cap), these items were never installed in PRODUCTION. So, a car can never be "factory-original" if these sort of accessory items are installed on it.

Most accessory items were not installed in PRODUCTION as an option and most PRODUCTION optional items were never available as an accessory item, although there are a few exceptions. However, virtually all PRODUCTION options could be purchased as seperate pieces on a SERVICE part basis and installed on the car.

        Re: Accessory OR option "Joe"

You guys are right about C2 vetts. and other years BUT
What I should have mentioned is just for C1 61 and 62 vetts only.
Why ? because if some one is questioned on his or her color, or may be down the road NCRS requires verification for 61 to 62 body color, some one could tell weather it CAME with ether top ( color PLUS HT or ST markings) in crayon behind the seat. We are getting more and more technical on these old Vetts and because 61 and 62 would be unique in this area. Your thoughts ??

            Roy,

At first, I thought this might be an interesting concept but I suddenly had visions of "reproduced" original crayon markings, just like reproduction trim tags in 63-67, for cars with non original body color. A completely new category in judging would be created for 61-62 and the need to determine the original from the reproduced or altered color marking.

I'd feel a lot more comfortible leaving this one to the 53-62 guys. Little out of my category.

Roy - I'm not sure "we" argue over accessories, but you certainly do. I have no problem with it, just wanted to mention it. NCRS Judging Standard since 1974 inception - as it came from the factory - period. Give it a rest. It works. No one has to abide by it, but that is the standard. It's kind'a like a 100 yard dash is usually 100 yards long - and most people can live with that. And Roy, by the way, I love all (J.C. Whitney, etc) cool neat stuff on your car. Does not bother me a bit. Best, Dennis
