I am building a stroker 383 for my 1975 corvette. It has a pretty lumpy cam, 202 (291) heads from a 71 vette, roller rockers, etc. I have a Holley 750 DP that I want to use. What is the best intake manifold that will fit under the hood. I am looking for the best comprimise of torque and horse power.

Re: intake mainfold
I don't know if a 750 DP is taller than a 600 but I am currently using an Edelbrock Performer intake with a Holley 600 under a stock hood (no LT-1 scoops, etc.) on my '72. It JUST BARELY fits with a stock style round chrome air cleaner (avail. at Eckler's or similar), with maybe 1/16" clearance to the hood. I'm talkin' TIGHT! The Performer is a tad taller than stock height. I had a heluva time getting it to fit so it wouldn't hit the hood. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK IT FIRST! I didn't and I have a spider crack in my hood to remind me! Put it all together and dab a little paint on the air cleaner then close the hood. If there's any paint transferred to the hood, you know it's too high.

A 1975 hood due to the raised center section, has a little more clearance than a stock, non LT-1/LS-5 1972 hood. So, Jim might have an easier time fitting what you have just barely fit under your hood. So, if the combination that you have fits under your hood, albeit tightly, it ought to fit more comfortably under his 1975 hood.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: intake mainfold
Sorry for sounding like an idiot here, is the performer that Bob mentioned called performer only and does not have a number. Additionally what about the 7101? I have read, in Edelbrock advertising, that this is a more high performance manifold. Is this too tall? How is it for torque at lower RPMS?- Top

Re: Sorry for being vague......
I'm not sure of model number of my intake. I just asked for the lowest profile one available for reasons mentioned, but I know it's a Performer. Unfortunately, my car is currently in the shop, so I can't check for any casting numbers for you right now, but as Clem mentioned Edelbrock should be able to give you specs on all available units. If you tell them it's for a Vette, I'm sure that they will know how to hook you up with the best application. In fact, if memory serves, I think that the one I have is meant to be a direct replacement for the stock Vette one (among other things) But I'm not sure of it.

2101-Performer 7101-Performer RPM
I just received my Edelbrock catalog in the mail. In it they state that the 7101 will NOT fit under stock Vette hoods. No such note on the 2101 so it should fit. I know that Vic Edelbrock campaigns a 1963 Stingray in the vintage races (stock small block hood), so you might want to find out which manifold he is running. Edelbrock has a pretty good website: WWW.EDELBROCK.COM

Re: 2101-Performer 7101-Performer RPM
I'm running the 7101 Performer RPM manifold in my '75 Vette with its stock hood. Using a drop-base air cleaner (like those available from Moroso) it clears the hood, but just barely. Fortunately, I purchased this manifold right after it came out, and Edelbrock was not yet claiming that it did not fit under stock Vette hoods. I wouldn't have had the courage to go against their advice. I'm glad that it worked out this way though, because if you have any kind of a cam in your car, and you want to run a square bore carburetor, and emissions is of no concern, the Performer RPM is a hell of a lot better than the Performer (which I was using before I switched to the Performer RPM). The Performer was an okay manifold, I liked it better than my stock L-48 intake, but the Performer RPM is a great manifold. Man what a difference.
To give a frame of reference, the Performer RPM manifold is very similar in size and shape to the LT-1 manifold.
