Yes, there are a lot of folks that think that all fastners are to be tightened "as tight as you have the strength to get them". Consequently, they don't use torque wrenches since, using this protocol, a torque wrench is superfluous. However, the proper torque value for these fastners is 35-50 INCH/POUNDS. That's not very much. Without a torque wrench to guide AND DISCIPLINE themselves, most folks would think that this was "not tight enough".

I like Joe's idea of Epoxy. I do have the CD to the restorer so I will take a look at that also. Thanks for all the excellent ideas.

Just like wavy oil pan mounting flanges. I have done enough over from folks that have "cranked them down". I have several inch pound wrenhes that max out about 100 inch pounds or even less.....Craig

That's a good one Joe. I bought an SK a while back with similar range if I recall....I use it for setting up rotating torque on the differential pinions to get them in the 16-20 inch pound range (rotating not break away torque). I have one little one that I haven't found a use for yet, it maxes out at 10 inch pounds, it was a nice US made brand and I got it for about 10 bucks, so what the hey.... Craig

Craig, I think the 10 inch pounder is used ....

by electricians when installing fuses in fuse panels and light bulbs in light sockets.

I agree. I would go to a hobbie shop and get some super thin super glue (great stuff to fix corvette's with). Force the pieces back together and then carfully apply the supper glue. The thin glue will capillary into the crack and fuse it together. It will be hard to detect when completed. Also work great on fixing consols and dash substructures. Just my opinion. Terry

It'd have to be an electrical engineeer. No electrician I know is anal enough to use a 10 lb-in torque wrench, but an electrical engineer? Absolutely.
