    C2 64 Emblems

Anybody have a good way to locate and drill the holes for 64 crossed flag fender emblems W/O FI? I think mine are wrong and I can't locate any evidence of old holes that have been filled in on either side. I have contacted most of the major parts guys but nobody seems to have a template.
    Thanks in advance!

    JM,

I have a '64 that I could take some measurements and possibly make you a crude template. It may take me a day or two before I can get it done. Email me at jwest@oppd.com and I'll get your address.

Thanks for the response. I also saw on the board archives where someone had stated that from the bottom point of the V to the center of the high point in the body line is 1 1/2" and the point of the V to the fender edge is 13 5/8" (measured straignt across). But it was a 66. Could you verify that is the same on your's?

        Thanks!

            Hi Jeff -

I don't know how anal you want to get here but in my '63 assembly manual (these are avail from the NCRS bookstore), they break the location of those holes down to the nearest hundredth of an inch. It's shown in section 11 Hood, Fenders, and Radiator right on sheet 1. I'd just tell you the dimensions, but they are referenced from datum lines - basically a 5" grid that overlays the entire body and exactly locates all the key points on the body (described in section 1). Assembly Manual - a must have. Good luck!

            Pete

Thanks for the response. I have the assy man but I can't figure the datum line very well because the car is on jack stands and not very level at the moment....(I know my shop floor is very unlevel) so I was trying to get the location in relation to something on the car.

                    Jeff,

I verified the dimensions that you gave me. The 1-1/2" from the bottom of the V to the high point of the body line is correct. The measurement from the bottom or low point of the V to the edge of the fender/door gap is not 13-5/8", my '64 measures 16" on both sides. The 13-5/8" measurement might be the distance the right FI emblem hole is from the front fender/door gap. Hope this helps.

                    Regards,

                    James West

I can also verify Mr. West's measurements. I measured my '64 last night and came up with 1 1/2 inches down and 16 inches from the fender edge at the door gap on the average of both sides. Gotta love assembly workers!

They didn't have much influence on those holes - they used an aluminum applied (hand-held) drill fixture that located on the fender peak for up-down and had a second peak locator and a blade at the rear that went in the door gap, and had drill bushings for the emblem holes. On the line, it was pretty consistent (and simple).
