Aside from the usual leaks around the top, which I know how to deal with, my 75 is leaking from somewhere around the cowl. Some previous owner has applied sealer over the entire area, so it's sort of hard to tell where the leak may be. Is there a particular spot on C3 cowls that is a known trouble spot. C2's have a propensity to leak where the cowl and firewall panels are attached, just wondering if the C3's have the same sort of issue. Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: 75 convertible cowl leaks
Might be a little on the pass side, but it is primarily on the driver's side. I can see it coming down behind the dash, but am unable to see exactly where without doing a lot of disassembly. Car has ac, so it's hard to see under the dash because of the ductwork.- Top

Re: 75 convertible cowl leaks
Your 75 is pretty much made like my 70. I would of never found the source of my leak if I had not really got involved in installing new parts on my 70 in 1985. Under the rear of both fenders there is a piece of fiberglass that is attached to the metal cowl below the windshield. Since your 75 does not have the windshield wiper door and grille, you should be able to see it with the hood up. The piece is bonded to the top rear of the fender and mine was riveted to the cowl below the windshield. Why the cowl piece was manufactured with a round hole in it I do not know. I do know that the hole was there when the cowl piece was installed and it was still being manufactured in the replacement pieces that I bought from almost 20 years ago. Ed water was getting under the fiberglass piece and coming through the hole. If you were remove your ductwork and look at the inside of the area I am talking about you would not see anything because the piece is made with a double wall. One wall of the unit makes up the interior side and the other side provides support for the windshield and the placement of of the fiberglass support for the rear of the fender. I took pictures of all the damaged area and the installation of the new pieces. When I installed the new piece I sealed the hole that was in the new piece to prevent any water entry. There is also a drain channel that is under the rear of the fender that directs runoff water below the fiberglass support for the rear of the fender. The channel on my drivers side was dammed up with a huge glob of panel adhesive. Wonder how many other Corvettes have this extra stuff in the drain channel? The only way to remove the fiberglass support is to remove part of the rear fender. You might be able to seal some of the perimeter with strip chaulk. Hope this area is not the cause of your leak.- Top

Re: 75 convertible cowl leaks
Ed another option to stop leak water from coming in through the hole in the metal cowling underneath the fiberglass fender support is to access the hole from the inside and seal the hole. An access hole would have to be cut from the inside and resealed. This is also a lot of work, but it wold be perferred by me rather than removing the top of the rear fender for access. Another leak area is this same metal cowling piece where the bottom of the windshield fits. If it has rusted through in this area, water will enter the double walled cowl piece. Hope you can seal around the fiberglass fender support with chaulk to stop water from getting under it.- Top

Re: 75 convertible cowl leaks
I currently have the car down at my shop where it has been repainted. I have just about got it sufficiently reassembled to bring it home. As soon as I do, I'll get under the dash with the AC duct out and see if I can determine where it's coming from. I don't want to take anything else apart while I have it at the shop, since it's hard enough to keep all the pieces together as it is. Thanks again for the info.- Top
