    finding owner history

I have 64 roadster that I am in the current process of restoring. I would like to find the owner history of the car, originally purchased at Don Allen Chevrolet Miami (I think) Can anyone tell me how I can start the process?

    Thanks !

Where to start is easy. Finding anything is hard.

If you think it was sold in Miami, then search for Don Allen Chevrolet and with Florida DMV.

Don Allen Chevrolet comes up in Yahoo searches, but not Miami.

You can check if they know of the one there.

Checking for Chevrolet in Miami gives a wide search:

Contact Florida DMV and request a title search, since I assume you have a title and VIN. Odds are it won't go back that far.

Do a search in the state of the previous owner, the one you bought it from. Then do a search in the state of the earliest owner on the list.

If you have a charming phone personality, you can try calling and often you can persuade someone to do an extra bit of digging, like going in the back room to the old boxes that most don't know about, looking in their "personal" access, etc. Letters rarely get that "extra" touch.

However, in writing is what you want, because that is documentation. Listening on the phone and writing it down doesn't carry much wait, although if you are owner 5 and owner 9 came to you, he would be overjoyed to get that in 10 years from now.

Contact anyone you know or don't know in the Miami area who was around there back in the early 60s. They might know about Don Allen Chevrolet, who they became or if they packed up, and maybe someone who worked there.

If you have a really good library, and it carries City Directories (not phone phones although that can work, look up a City Directory for 1964 for Miami.

    Good luck and good hunting.
