    60 Park brake light switch

Where does the park brake switch mount and what moves the switch to make the ground? Also, where does the light go?

The switch mounts on the top of the brake rod. There is a nub on the top of the rod that depresses the switch when the rod is pulled out. The light goes in the instrument cluster near the top. On a 59, it is fed from a flasher unit. On later cars the wire runs straight from the switch to the bulb and the bulb flashes. If you are building a system where one currently doesn't exist, this is a little easier to wire, but not correct of course. The only tough part about this is finding a switch if you don't have one.

The switch does not make ground. Power is fed from the fuse panel to the switch and from the switch to the bulb. The bulb grounds on the IC. If it is a pre 61 car, the flasher is in series between the switch and the bulb. On a 61-62, the wire runs straight from the switch to the bulb.

Maby my switch is bad. The button doesn't move so I thought it might just be a ground contact between the metal plate and button. (my ohm meter stoped). Is the button on the switch supposed to depress? Are you refering to the nub that is the "stop" when the brake is off? And then you adjust the position of the switch after you see where the brake pull stops?

Your switch should have a V shaped piece between the switch and the rod, if my memory serves. I don't have a C1 at the moment to look at. The button on the switch does depress and make the circuit. Yes, same nub. Seems like there is a pretty good picture of this circuit in the AIM. For a 59, it would be in the option section I suppose.

                        Mine looks a little different...

This is the Park Brake warning lite setup from my '59 still attached to the harness. Don't know if it is correct or installed properly, haven't got there yet. Pat G.

I think rob's picture is of the brake light switch while yours is the parking brake alarm switch. Heading of question probably is causing confusion between the two.
