    What's in Park City?

I'm interested in hauling my 55 to Park City. I've been a NCRS member for 2 years.
    I've had my 55 for 22 years.
I've not attended any NCRS events becouse, well frankly they sound boring.

I mean is it just a bunch of guys standing around waiting to hear whats wrong with someone elses car? Or is there more going on?

I'd hate to trailer my car 1500 miles if the event isn't fun.

    Dennis:

I know the feeling. Have attended chapters, regionals, & nationals. For the dollar, I think Bloomington and Carlisle are by far the best for Corvette fun.

But since, you have a '55, and the national is honoring that year, I think you should try it at least once.

go and get to know the judges, other 55 owners and the membership in attendance. how much to the right you peg your fun meter is directly proportional to your own interaction with the other members in attendance. hope to see you and the 55. mike

            Dennis,
I think the more you get involved, the more fun it becomes. I'm just young, snot-nose, indignant, self-righteous brat, but listen to the others! I found that while attending the San Luis Obispo meet, Roy's copper '55 and my buddy, Boyan's, '63 roller where the most exciting for me. I have a 67 coupe, but love all of it! I'll see you there in Utah, and it's quite a ride for me also from Malibu.

                Dennis,

As others have noted, you'll likely get out of it what you put into it.

Decide ahead of time what interests you. You may want to go on the sightseeing tours, you may want to visit the Judging Seminars/Schools, or you may want to learn more about your 55 by being an Observer Judge with one of the 53-55 judging teams and watching them in action.

If you attend, and plan to sit next to your 55 in a chaise lounge under an umbrella, it might be quite boring for you, unless you bring along a large novel to read. It's not like other car shows; it really is a National Convention of a certain car club. Think of it more along those lines and you'll have the right idea.

I've been to Nationals in 92, 94, 2002, 2003 and 2004. Each has been enjoyable in its own way, and I've done different things at each. Well, I've never done the sightseeing stuff offered, as in 2002 I stayed extra in Monterey and did the looking on my own, and in 2003 I took my kids to Gettysburg also on my own.

                Have fun!

Many people goggle over the 53 Corvette because of being the first year , but don't realize fewer 55's out of 700 still survive to day ( less then 100 are thought to exists ) While over 250= 1953 Corvettes have been registered with NCRS
The 55 is one of the least understood and ( misjudged) Corvettes and rarely seen .

Dennis, think of this as a vacation. If you are having your car judged that is only one day. There are a multitude of things to do. Log on NCRS.org and click on the convention info. From there you can find a long list of activities for the family. Bob sled rides, bicycling, shopping, etc. If I can find a HD horse and a crane to load my fat ... on his back, I plan to do some trail riding. Log on parkcity.com for further information.

There are plenty of friends to be made during the week. Don't be shy. There is always someone to talk cars with. I have had the pleasure of making literally 100's of friends since I joined NCRS. NCRS is a somewhat of a big family. The meet is what you make of it.

Look forward to meeting you there.

Past National Conventions have been fun even without a car, and I'm sure Park City will be the same. If you have never had your car judged, I would start at a chapter meet. As mentioned before, you can have your car judged and you can be an observer judge for other cars. Think of it as a learning experience, a place to talk to people that have the same hobby as you. You can also get tips on what can make your car better. I'm sure there is a chapter meet before Park City. Bottom line, if you love old Corvettes, a NCRS National is the ultimate.
