    distributor cap

    I have a NOS cap with delco-remy patent 2760047 will that cap work for a 71 LS-5? Are is this cap to early for my car?

    Lyndon,
    The cap you have will work perfectly in your car. It will not pass judging scrutiny though. For that you need a cap that reads, Delco-Remy Patent Pending with an "R".

            There are different markings on the same configured cap which is a Delco D-308. All Chevrolets except some high performance engines like L-88's etc. used that cap. All say Delco Remy but some have Patent Pending, some have the "047" patent number and some have R's. Combinations of those markings were all used. The D-308 began in 1958 and were put on virtually all Chevrolet cars including Corvettes (except internally and externally adjusted dual point cars) until 1975. At that point when HEI was introduced they became a service part.
