    Survey,- '66,'67,'68 427 fan shrouds

I'm trying to determine how to best proceed.
I am particularly interested in the 1967 cars.
I have two different GM fan shrouds (right part numbers, wrong shape according to AIM?), or I could purchase a reproduction part.

Would the owners of '66,'67,'68 BB cars with original shrouds please provide me with some details about them?

The reproduction shrouds such as shown on DeWitt's web-page show a approx 3"x4" rectangular cut out on the drivers side.
They also show a hole in the top piece that is not directly in the center.
And they don't have the 6 narrow slots for the A/C extension.

How did they look coming off the 1967 production line?

I just sold a '67 BB fan shroud for a non AC car. It had the square hole on the drivers side and the mounting hole for the top support bracket on the top like you state. No slots for the A/C that you mention. The difference I noticed between the SB and BB shroud is the angle of the top portion of the shroud. This requires the matching mounting bracket which is bent at the matching angle.

The fiberglass 68 bigblock looks the same as 67 except it doesn't have the cut out on the drivers side. I believe the 67 might have been considered a service replacement for the 68. Joe could probably comment on it. I also believe that at some time they started using pop rivets to hold the three pieces together at the seams. That may have only been a service replacement thing though because I have never seen them on original cars. I have only seen the rivets on NOS stuff. I am always looking for sections of fan shrouds. If you have a broken one you want to get rid of, let me know. Thanks, Terry

            That would make sense.
I beginning to think I have (parts of) 2 '68 fan shrouds with the same part numbers as listed in the '67 service manual.
            Thanks.
I'd still like to hear from some '67 owners.

The original fan shroud on my March '66 L36 Coupe was fractured when I got it - so I replaced it with a repro unit from LIC. The differences I noted between the original unit and the repro are as follows:

-The original shroud had an aluminum "plug" rivit joining the top left joint (looking @unit from the rear). I took this rivit out and "reset" it in the repro shroud to match the original config. Looks great.

-There was more glass fibers visible in the original's thinly painted finish. Once the repro was painted, it looked fine.

-My car is a factory AC/A.I.R. car, and the original shroud DID NOT have the fan shroud extension slots & holes cut - the molded slot depressions where the grooves were to be cut were less pronounced on the original as compared to the repro. Also FYI for you interested in C60 configs, the car came equiped w/ a 5-blade fan rather than the 7-blade unit as called for in the JG.

                    I am interested.
                    My April '67 L36 convertible had factory A/C (C60).
                    It has the 7-blade fan.
I'd like to think maybe the late '67 cars started using the '68 fan shrouds, as they got reports of problems with overheating. They went to 7-blade fans, a shroud that forced more air through the radiator, seals, and an extenstion.
It could be that my shroud is original, although shaped like what I now believe to be a '68 style shroud.

                    I've got very few responses.
I'm guess I'm still trying to find the right answer.
