    1969 bolts for fusebox

    Gentlemen,

I'm changing the complete dashboard wiring harness on my 69 convertible (too many cuts and not insulated wires).

I was wondering, because there are no bolts attaching the fusebox to the body. It was glued with a kind of sealing material. Referring to the assemby manual there should be two of them.

Can someone tell me please what kind of bolts I need (sheet metal bolts, hex head etc.) And what are the dimensions? I'm here in Germany and the local Chevy dealer is not able to tell me something about these bolts and he is not able or willing to order them.

    Excuse my English

    Greeting from Germany

Klaus, my records show that for 70, GM used two #10 self-tapping sheet metal screws, 2 1/4 inches long, with indented flanged hex head, black phosphate finish. These are not typical screws so I doubt you will be able to find them in a hardware store. I'm pretty sure that the screws were the same in 69.

I didn't find these screws to be offered by the usual suppliers; someone may know where they can be found. As you know, the part number is 9428475...maybe Joe Lucia can advise you if the part is even available from GM, or if there is a replacement part number.

Your english seems pretty good to me...much better than my German.

My 68 fuse block has the same #10 x 2.25long sheet metal screws but there is a plastic sleeve or plastic coating around the threads of the screw. It looks like the end of this sleeve deforms when tightened to lock in place. This is probably a good idea to find the original screws. Fuse blocks crack easily if these screws are overtightened.

The coating on the threads is "beeswax", to seal the hole where the screw protrudes on the engine side against water intrusion.
