    Michael,

The result of your inquiry was interesting. I believe we've come full cirle. If you remember, the inquiry started initially with a discussion regarding the broadcast code sticker found on the back of the instrument cluster. This led to a discussion re: the 80lb ga. which led to a discussion re: the Judges Guide. In re: to the code, several members were kind enough to share information on this topic. In a nutshell, these codes are significant because they may very well shed light, assuming the cluster or individual gauges were not incorrectly replaced, on the car's original equipment. [See December 28, 2004 discussion Re: C2.] In addition I have called several individuals, including cluster rebuilders with the hope that they might have conversion tables that would decipher these codes. To date I have been unable to find these conversion tables. However, with the information that you have obtained from 1966 427/390 owners, it would be interesting, to compare their broadcast codes with each other. In other words, based upon what I have learned about the codes, you should expect to find the same code information on all 427/390s. It would be interesting to compare the codes of a 60lb ga. car with those of an 80 lb. ga. car. I suspect you will start to see a pattern and we may have a better idea regarding the ga. issue.

Having said this, I am requesting input from owners of original 66 427/390 HP cars re: their broadcast codes found on the back of their instrument clusters. You may be able to get this information without having to pull the clusters out with the use of a mirror. For those of you with back problems, proceed with caution! Take a look at John Hinkley's post "Re: C2" wherein he attaches a photo of the back of the instrument cluster. You can see the code in photo. It is the sticker with the letter "LA". If your able to get to the sticker, please post all info contained on the sticker.

    Hector,

I just spoke with the owner of the November build 390 HP car and he reported an "LD" sticker. He couldn't read any of the other small numbers but I will try to go there tomorrow and get a close-up pic using John Hinckleys method. This is an all original 390 HP car with low redline tack and 80# oil pressure gauge.

        Michael,

The "LD" sticker should have Cluster 6457983, Speedo 6455387-W and Tach. 6412222-W.

Below should be AC--MADE IN U.S.A.

Let me know if I'm right, please.

Jr, the speedo # is 6455367 ....Everthing else is correct.
The same numbers apply to an LA except the cluster number is 6457982
The LD has a 80 the La has a 60 gauge.
            Hope this helps!

                Jim,

My eyes are bad and I stand corrected as my LD is a 6455367-W as all that have a non-speed warning cluster. I also have an LA with the 6457982. It came from a 1966 low rpm car with a 60 pound oil gauge.

Do all clusters with the LA 6457982, LD 6457983, LB 6457984 and LC 6457985 cluster numbers come from 1966 Corvettes?

                Inquiring minds want to know!

                Regards,

                JR

                    JR,

I have the info and you are correct. The tag is labeled "LD". The cluster assy is #6457983. Speedo is #6455367 and tach is 6412222.

The 6457983 cluster assembly has to be unique to 66 with 390 HP 427. No other 65-67 used this particular combination of gauges.

It would be exactly the same as a 65-67 300 HP 327 cluster assy with the exception of the 80# oil gauge. That exception would change the assembly number and code letters.

                    Michael
