Re: 61 vette
no simple, over the counter(aftermarket or otherwise)setup that'll make a c-1 a PS car. 54 and i believe 53 chevy pass cars were offered with an optional PS system. if you found one, it'd probably involve some fabrication. the system was archaic and the hoses etc lokk like a plumbers nightmare. they are rare as few chevy buyers opted for it in the early 50's. BTW, the front suspension on the 49 to 54 chevy pass cars are very similar to the c-1's. if you're running 6.70x15 tires or radial equivanent and have a stock steering wheel, the effort to steer a c-1 is minimal and need for PS not an issue to most folks. if the 61's gonna be a street rod, go with a late model vette(c-4) front suspension. Paul newman in so cal can fix your frame to accept the c-4 front susp. good luck, mike- Top

Re: 61 vette
Crane's Corvette in California offers a power steering conversion for C1's. Haven't ever heard from anyone who has installed one and whether or not they are any good. You can retrofit a rack & pinion to a C1, but you have to alter the steering column or replace it with one from Flaming River which is made for this purpose. You also have to change the motor mounts to install a PS pump, or go to an electric pump.- Top
