I have a Noverber 1958-290HP car and the transmission tunnel has three holes in it toward the top of the tunnel. I understand these are for the bolts for a powerglide but this is a real 290 car. I seemed to remember this post before but want to make shure that this is OK for this date of body. Help Please. Thanks in advance.

Re: 59 Body Question
Jerry, I remember the previous post on this as I had an interest in this question also. I will tell you my experience but I can't give you a for sure answer. I have 2 1959s. One I bought without a drive train so I can't vouche for originality but there was no evidence of the additional clips on the passenger side for the neutral saftey switch wiring that you have in an auto car. The tunnel was not a replacement and as in early 59's it was one piece to the floor. It has the 3 holes with a metal cover screwed on. The other car I have is a 270hp 4 speed numbers matching Bloomington Gold car. I also cannot vouch complete originallity because I don't have complete owners history. This one unfortunately caught fire and again no sign of wire holders ever being on the pass side of the tunnel it also has the 3 holes with cover. To restore the fire damage I bought a piece of a 58 car that also has the 3 holes and it definately has the wire holders for the neutral saftey switch all original paint and no evidence that part of the car was ever changed. It has the 3 holes and cover also. My thought would be with you car to look for the wire holders on the pass side of the tunnel, if they are there then it was prob an auto car at birth. I don't beleive the previous thread ever gave a definate answer to the question. Noland Adams book does have a picture page 24 1953 under body being assembled with the 3 holes but they were autos, then page 112 1957 has the 3 holes with cover, page 143 57 again 3 holes with cover on the line, page 184 57 fuely car again 3 holes with cover. I can't imagine that the cars were assembled as option at the beginning of body build so my quess is that they all had the 3 holes. Also the holes are not cut out as a nice mold ridge can be seen on mine. Just my thought. I'm going to the judging seminar next month I will maybe do some research, maybe a good restorer article?- Top
