C3 69 half shaft binding question??

i was putting the half shafts back in my 69 tonight after pressing in new u-joints and im having a binding problem. the rear end yokes bind when the shaft loop passes it at the bottom. i have the weight of the car on the strut rods. i took them back off and radiused the edges but one side is still binding. i can see where it wore groves in the shaft loop. i put it on with that side on the trailing arm side thinking they were symetrical. ie no right or left side and no inner or outer ends. what am i doing wrong or is this a common problem that "wears" its self in as you drive it?

Everyone goes nuts when they see these things binding. If you will let that thing down and put the weight of the car on the ground the binding will go away.

i have all the weight of the car on the trailing arms. i dont have tires on it but i have a jack under each trailing arm supporting it by the point where the strut rod connects. you can see a groove that has worn in the loops. so just ignore it?

There is no substitute for all of the weight on the wheels and rolling the car forward to settle the suspension. If you have any binding then, there is something terribly out of whack.

When you look at the half shafts from the rear, are they level end to end, or do they drop at the outside more than a couple of inches?

If they drop more than a couple of inches, you simply need the rear settled. If they are level and binding, you have other problems, like maybe the axle yokes are worn out, although I dont' think I've seen any wear that much.
