I bought this 1960 corvette today and it has a tach with a redline at about 6500 redline. It is a later 60 corvette. I looked in Noland Adam's book but came to no conclusion. I will be ordering an NCRS JM for 1960. What horsepower is this corvette for? Previous owner thought it was for a 270 HP. Are there any known records for body color productions. This car is a Tasco Turquoise. I hope to find the factory chalk marking, under the paint, in the trunk tomorrow. Will the factory marking say tasco, turquise, blue?? What is your guess? Thanks!

Re: 1960 corvette tach identification
On the back of the tach there is a very faded stamping in white? 40041 W. Does this help? I haven"t popped out of the rear cover. Withhout scratching paint I could see a Q S. Not sure yet. So I attempted, to gently remove some of the paint where the letters were not visible with a quarter and all I got was what I believe is (red primer??). There are no signs this car had F.I. emblems. Thanks! Dick Gutman- Top

Re: 1960 corvette tach identification
I have the tach from a '60 270hp I used to have and it has 1549041-W stamped on the back of it. This also corresponds to the part number stated in Noland's book for the 270hp option. You may want to look at the stamping very closely. The 40041 is probably 49041. Hope this helps- Top

Re: 1960 corvette tach identification
Do all 60 FI distributor driven tachs have "reads twice cable speed" stamped on the back?
Is it in ink or permanently indented letters? I don't remember seeing this on my tach. Have not hooked it up yet and am now wondering if I have the correct unit. Many parts on my 60 FI car have been switched with a 61? I may have a generator driven tach from the donor 61?- Top

Re: 1960 corvette tach identification
Terry, a 60 FI tach should have part #1549082 stamped on the back. I believe the part number is the same for '61. Nolands book says that it "may" have "reads twice cable speed" on the back. Hope this helps.- Top
