C2 Window Sticker, Verifying if it's original?

I'm trying to verify if a '66 window sticker is original or a reproduction.
What are some key points I should look for? And how was the window sticker attached to the window? (Should I see some old glue marks or tears where it was attached?) Does anyone have a photo of an original for comparison? Thanks

First clue is whether it has a six-digit number near the top right corner (the car's "Ident Number" [not the VIN number] from the Corvette Order Copy); if there's no number, it's a reproduction.

Don't know if it would be the same in 1966, but my original window sticker I removed from my 70 is in one piece. It is kind of wrinkled and the paper is sorta brown looking from the original adhesive. For sure it is not a smooth piece of paper.

Jim - You might also check out Noland Adams' and Dobbins' books. They have copies of some "original" window stickers. Pete

                Ken-----

The original window stickers were affixed to the windows with a water-based adhesive applied to, more-or-less, the full surface of the sticker. They could be removed intact by wetting them with water, softening the adhesive, and carefully peeling off the sticker. Not many folks did this, though. Usually, they were just peeled off DRY and the remnants soaked off or scraped off.

Originals will usually be brownish as a result of age and the adhesive. They will usually not be perfectly intact, either, as they rarely came off without some damage to the edges.

Reproduction stickers will be "white", with perfect edges, and no evidence of glue. At least, that's how they are supplied by the reproducers. Later attempts by "folks who come into possession of reproduction window stickers" to re-create the look of an original sticker may alter the appearance of the sticker from the way the reproducer made it.

Although it's a bit hard to describe, I've NEVER seen a reproduction window sticker, no matter how much "extra effort" that went into making it look old and original, that couldn't be rather easily discerned from an original.

We had a bench-top machine at the Broadcast Booth at the end of the Final Line (where the window sticker, Car Shipper, etc. were printed and the P-O-P was created) about the size of a computer printer; it had a tray of water-based glue in it, and the window sticker was run through it (like applying water to a piece of pre-pasted wallpaper) and the dripping sticker was then applied to the window glass. If the sticker was carefully moistened (dabbed repeatedly with a soaking-wet sponge), the moisture would soak through the paper and dissolve the glue so the sticker would come off the glass relatively undamaged (but permanently stained by the glue). Most people just wanted the damn thing off the glass and didn't take the trouble to do it carefully, then threw it away

Or in the case of my sister, the dealer threw it out when he prepped the car. It angered her greatly as she has every other piece of paper for a 1969 Z28, even the cancelled check for the down payment.

This often happened. In fact, it was the case the VAST majority of the time. However, it's a violation of the "Moroni sticker" law (although, I don't know exactly when this law went into effect). The law says that the sticker has to be on the window at the time of "retail delivery" and not just sale. Many dealers have always operated on the basis of the latter, though.
