    Midyear Vent Window Regulator Removal

Having trouble getting my 63 vent window regulator separated from the vent frame post. There seems to be some sort of clip sandwiched between the post and the regulator and the regulator will not just slide off as I thought it should. I cannot seem to get the two separated. Any help appreciated.

    Use a bigger hammer.

Actually some times a small hammer is need to seperate the two. Be careful to not hit the glass.

        Hi Gary -

I'm several days ahead of you with my '63 vent window. That clip is a part of the regulator, and I'm not sure what it's purpose is - aggrevation perhaps. Seriously, it appears to maintain tension at this juncture. I too had fun getting the post out. But lots of WD40 and some gentle wiggling and persuation did the trick. Talk to it nicely.

        Good luck!

            Gary,
The die cast part of the regulator is compressed (squeezed) out of shape (over the post)as the screw was originally tightened to insure the post and the regulator did not wiggle as operated. You need to open up the die casting a little with a small screw driver to allow easy removal.

Thanks everyone for your replies and help. I thought it was just a slip fit, but was not able to get the two apart. The regulator is such soft metal I was reluctant to act too forcefully until I knew the clip was not some sort of magic retainer! I will try your tip Gene, and if that does not work I will try something rougher.
