    C1 1962 grill help

Hello folks, I am in the midst of building a tupeular chassis 1962 vette. The body is 100% stock with the exception of the paint color.

I installed my grill over the week end and I am not sure If I have it in up side down or not, I looked thru all of the refrence books I have at home and none of them show a good pictue of how the grill should look with out a bumper on it,It stands off the chrome peices about 1/2 because of the spacers.(I assume they are there to leave clearences for the bumpers)When I purchased the car the grill was taped in place so I could not use that as a refrence,I have added a link to an online photo album with some more pictures.

Thanks in advance for helping if you want to find out more about the car I am building stop by my web site at YELLOWCORVETTES.COM

    Larry...

The "61 grille has (5) five bars up and (4) four down, I believe the '62 to be the same. (Nice car you have going)

I read somewhere that the spacers were put in for '62 to take care of a whistling issue. With all the cahanges you are making you could probably try leaving them out and see if it is there. Will make the grille more flush with the front end.

            Larry,

I don't know enough about the C1's to help with the grill, but the job number on my 67 coupe is the same as your 66 bigblock I think, #104. Good Luck!

Agree, Dennis. The wider space is behind the grille bar. I've seen several at meets that were installed upside down and that wide space really stands out above the grille bar.

61's, not 62's, had problems with wind whistle. For that reason a dealer fix was spelled out--they were to put a bit of rubber bacuum hose in each corner between the grille and the body. Part of that whistle was because the center area of the 61 grille had a solid area a couple of inches tall across the width of the grille in the center. When a 61 grille is upside down, you can REALLY tell, because that portion is way too visible. In 62 they eliminated that flat area, and left the 62 "mesh" area throughout. The spacers were to elminate potential contact between the grille and the bumpers.
