    C3 Fiber optics?

has anyone had success splicing the fiber optic cable? there has to be a way i would think as the phone company repairs them. could a person cut a clean cut with a razor blade on both ends and butt them together and seal them with a piece of heat shrink tubing? yes you might lose some intensity but it cant be that bad. also any way reccomended to clean the ends that go into the lights?
    thanks, dick

I have repaired quite a few by using a single edge razor blade to make a Square cut on each end of the damaged section. Use regular heat shrink tubing, not the sealing type with hot glue inside, but the ends together tightly and heat being careful not to overheat.

You can clean the ends with isoprophyl alcohol and a Q-tip. The end seals are available from Dr.Rebuild at a very nominal fee. Shipping would be more that a whole set of them.

I had one of those kits but never used it (picked it up a swap meet). It was very simple, razor blade, shrink tube and instructions. But, it also included some very clear silicone gel. It may have been very clear silicone sealer. I believe it helped transfer the light without loss and sealed the ends to prevent dirt from getting in between the ends of the fiber cable. Terry
