    Engine Painting

How to you guys paint your engine ? Do you paint block,pan,heads,intake,w/p seperatly then assemble OR assemble and then paint ?

Has anyone used Eastwood's "Chevy Orange" powder coat and if so what brand engine paints is a good match ?

i assemble the long block with intake then remove all oil residue left over from assembly proceedure(always seems to be oil here and there) with either or lacquer thinner then paint the pup with VHT or Krylon. good luck. mike

      Echo....

Mike's on the money if factory concours authenticity is your objective. That's how the factory painted the engines originally (fully assemble, add selective masks, and shoot away). If you paint the individual components, expect some deductions because some things (e.g. edges of gaskets) aren't going to have paint coverage (unless you want to sit there with a touch-up brush) and you'll lose some originality points....

        Re: Engine Painting

Jim, I am currently on a quest to match the Eastwood Chevy orange powdercoat.
The Plasti-Kote and Seymour do not match, both are too redish. I have some Eastwood rattle cans on order but was told they use Seymour paint. I have also ordered some Quanta that I have high hopes for, it should be in next week. There have been a couple threads about Chevy orange already this year. In the archives one of the members tested several and gave his opinions. And I posted a pic comparison of the oranges I tried including the Eastwood PC. Email me direct if you want me to send you the pic. Pat Gillies

          Hah! I used brushes!

A 1/2" art brush and two smaller ones, using POR-15 Chevy Red engine enamel.
