Personally, I think that the GM #3916141 was the fan clutch used for 1968 and 1969 L-88s. This is an Eaton-manufactured unit with a "coil spring" thermostat. GM says that's the one that was used, too.

The GM #3916141 is still available from GM (or, was until recently). It's current configuration is slightly different than the original, though. Mainly, this involves the configuration of the fluid resevoirs on the front of the unit.

Yes, later 1968 through 1969 big blocks, except L-88, mostly used the GM #3937771 fan clutch. This was a Sweitzer clutch with "bi-metallic" thermostat.

No, I simply responded to questions which were part of threads that have "expired" from the active board. When this occurs, my response shows up on the board without there being an original thread to which it is "attached". You can tell when this happens because the sunbject line of the response will have "Re:" in it.

Thanks Joe. I guess I'll hold off replacing my fan clutch for now. It sounds like it might just be correct after all. I'll have to do more digging.

            Thanks,
            Jon
